Gingerbread houses are one of my favorite things at this time of year. They combine creativity, craftiness, holiday cheer and quality time spent with loved ones. Oh yeah, and CANDY! I have wonderful memories of making gingerbread houses with my mom and from the lakeside gingerbread house party I attended with my in-laws and nephews.
This year my family attended a gingerbread house decorating event which was part of the Tiburon Holiday Festival. The event was held at Guaymas restaurant in downtown Tiburon.
This is a great activity to center a party around. Keep it simple and purchase a pre-made kit. There are so many affordable varieties available at all retailers. Supplement the kits with some of your own candy selections or if you still have Halloween candy lingering around, put it to good use (not that I know anything about that. Moving on…). But don’t just limit yourself to candy! More ideas for building supplies are marshmallows, cereal, shredded coconut, pretzels and small figurines – get creative!
Thank you to the Tiburon Chamber of Commerce for hosting this family friendly event. Proceeds from this event benefited Friday Nights on Main and the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank.
