When one of my closest friends in Marin asked if I would help her organize a graduation party I immediately said YES! A graduation is truly a special occasion to gather and celebrate the guest of honor’s hard work and accomplishments. And after we selected an Asian party theme, we realized it was perfect to highlight symbols of good/future luck and fortune!
Guests were treated to a buffet dinner by BooKoo in Mill Valley and a bartender serving signature Mandarin Champagne cocktails. The hostess created party favors out of mini bamboo steamers that were the perfect touch. The night ended with several toasts and well wishes for the recent grad plus a delicious cake customized with red floral accents and fortune cookies.
When starting my party plans, my first stop is Pinterest to gather visual inspiration and help put all of our ideas into focus. From there I like to design vignettes, centerpieces and displays to feature as table or room decor. After that we filled in the blanks of menu/drink planning, event rentals and selecting vendors. Since we live so close to San Francisco’s Chinatown I made a day trip into the city to buy perfect finishing touches like lanterns, tassels and figurines.
The florist, Samantha of Dahlias and Dragonflies, is a good friend of the hostess and really outdid herself. After showing her just one photo for inspiration, she designed whimsical arrangements in take-out containers. She created the most amazing arrangements that brought life and lushness to the party.
I loved every minute of creating this event for my friend. It’s an awesome feeling when all of the plans, collaborative ideas and details come to life!
